The tireless efforts of Professors Yoshimi Yoshiaki and Hayashi Hirofumi continue to display the best kind of objective, rational historical research. These scholars have followed the documents, and they have allowed evidence to raise the questions that must be analyzed. Together with activists and writers such as Nishino Rumiko-san and her colleagues at the Violence Against Women Research Action Center, Japanese citizens demonstrate that their current leadership is not representing the diverse will of its people.
Japanese scholars and activists working in collaboration with others throughout Asia and Oceania make the facts of Japan’s history of wartime militarized sexual slavery known to the international community at large. All of us endeavoring to create a future in which such atrocities are a thing of the past are grateful for their work. A majority of Japanese recognize and believe this, and at its core remain this particular history’s few surviving victims. The evidence demonstrates the truth of the matter, and these people deserve the dignity of being fully believed before they die.
